Fresh from this year’s Herts Jazz festival, 2018’s BBC Young Jazz Musician on the Year tenor sax player Xhosa Cole brings his Birmingham based quartet to Harborough Jazz. Reports from Herts suggest he emerged undaunted despite playing alongside veterans Art Themen and Mornington Lockett in a three tenors battle. Having first played the tenor sax at Andy Hamilton’s Ladywood Community Music School, he’s now among a long legacy of Birmingham saxophonists. He decided to pursue music and joined the Jazzlines Ensemble, Birmingham Schools Symphony Orchestra, Midland youth Jazz Orchestra among others. Over the last year this young man has been establishing a great reputation for his music, knocking people out wherever he plays. He is supported by Daniel Austin-Guy on piano, Shivraj Singh on bass and Nat England-James on drums – three other young products of the Birmingham jazz scene. Expect some really swinging music from this group.
